The last mile of AWP
An AWP program produces Installation Work Packages (IWPs): scope broken down and sequenced to match how the project will actually be built. But an IWP existing on paper isn't the same as an IWP being ready for a crew. Someone still has to confirm the materials have arrived, the access and permits are cleared, and the package is sequenced against what's already built, not just what the schedule says should be built.
That confirmation step is workface planning. It's the discipline that turns an IWP from a planning artifact into a package a foreman can hand to a crew without a stop-work conversation halfway through the shift.

Projects that treat AWP as "the engineering team's job" and workface planning as an afterthought tend to see the same failure mode: packages that look complete on a Gantt chart but stall in the field because nobody actually verified they were ready.
